Hi Roddy and God bless you and your wife and family. You are so close to a break through and this is not the time to let frustration win. I just heard a sermon that said "hold on to peace and God will fight for you." I believe that you are a good worker and a good guy and that you will get work. This is some practical advice - if you believe that people are in fact afraid to hire you b/c of your record - have you thought of purchasing a bond as a guarantee to your potential employer against loss - even tho' your future employer won't ever have to use it? It probably wouldn't cost much (I know you're broke and at these times even a little cost can seem like too much) but I believe it would show your level of commitment to work/employment and your empathy toward your employer.
